Simply because we beat on, boats towards the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past, or possibly just to hawk some real estate, a developer constructing a Fantastic Neck, N.Y. subdivision in the 1980s went ahead and named it “Gatsby Lane.” (“It’;s a good, affluent name,” a broker as soon as informed the New York Instances. “I think it was very sensible.”) So there isn’;t really any connection amongst F. Scott Fitzgerald’;s traditional and the homes there—aside from the reality that he based the fictional community of West Egg on the area—which aren’;t historic Gold Coast estates, but fall into the much more current tradition of newer properties attempting to funds in on Fantastic Gatsby fever. The Instances after wrote that Gatsby Lane had “glimpses of magnificent water views between wedding ceremony-cake homes, and it would not be tough to location Gatsby in one of the more ostentatious mansions.” Is this 6-bedroom Gatsby Lane estate, currently listed at $ 15.98M, ostentatious enough to count? Built in 1957, the 12,000-square-foot abode missed the boat for Gatsbyesque shenanigans by a couple of decades, but that hasn’;t stopped it from acquiring decked out in what the listing ventures is an “Outdated World fashion,” which could practically be exact, if you squinted a bit: there’;s tons of gold trim on the inside, and hey, a handful of columns. The listing photographs are eager to present off the “fantastic water views” on the statue-filled “fantastic entertaining grounds.” For that kind of sum, you better be ready to look out at evening and catch sight of a nostalgic, thematically important green light shining across Manhasset Bay.
