Formafantasma query the link in between tradition and nearby culture and the romantic relationship among objects and the concept of cultural heritage with De Natura Fossilium. “Historically craftsmen would mould molten lava erupting from modest craters into celebrated and elaborate types. This time-honoured craft has effectively been rendered worthless as now only affordable airport souvenirs are developed.”

“De Natura Fossilium is a project that refuses to accept locality as touristic enjoyment. Instead, the function of Formafantasma is a diverse expedition in which the landscape is not passively contemplated but restlessly sampled, melted, blown, woven, cast and milled.”

“From the far more acquainted use of basalt stone and Lavic fibres, to their excessive experiments with lava in the manufacturing of glass, Formafantasma’s explorations and the resulting objects challenge this scenario to realise the total potential of the lava as a material for design.”
